Day 1 (Saturday): LjubljanaArrive at Ljubljana airport and transfer to downtown Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. After you check in to your hotel , you will be welcomed by your tour guide. All guests are invited to attend a welcome dinner at the local resturant Sokol. Day 2 (Sunday): DolenjskaSoon after leaving Ljubljana you will see the first vineyards rising on the hills above the green Krka River. Our first stop will be to view the remains of the Soteska Castle and admire the surrounding baroque park with its painted garden pavilion. Our next stop will be to look at the nearby Tufa formations in the Krka River. In warm summer months, swimming is an option. Later on you will enjoy a tasty snack consisting of local delicacies served on a cold plate in a typical Slovene vineyard cottage called a zidanica. Surrounded by gently rolling vineyards, you will sip a glass of Cviček, the region’s own home-made wine. You will then proceed to the Dolenjska Toplice thermal spa to get pampered in one of its modern indoor and outdoor pools. After a few hours of carefree fun, you too will be convinced of the healing effects of the local thermal water. For a perfect end to this eventful day, you will take an evening walk in the romantic park of Slovenia’s only castle built on water Otočec Castle, with the Krka River meandering gently around its shores. Day 3 (Monday): Postojna Cave and Lipica to Slovenian CoastAfter breakfast you will start the day off with a visit to Postojna Cave, the largest and most famous karst cave in Slovenia and the most visited cave in Europe. You can marvel at the cave’s captivating beauty from an electric train that runs through the tunnel system. Under careful supervision of experienced tour guides, you will have the chance to walk a section of the cave. If you’re lucky, you may get to see the “human fish” (Proteus anguinus), the only cave vertebrate in Europe. You will also visit the mysterious Predjama Castle which was built into a cliff and whose many secret passages and old legends have excited the imaginations of many. The oldest part of the castle dates back to the 11th century and is called “Erazem’s Den” after the legendary robber knight who was under siege here and fought off the emperor’s army for a long time in 1484. After this, you will arrive at the Slovenian coast where you have dinner and hotel accommodation and optional partying at costal clubs and bars. Day 4 (Tuesday): Secovlje Saline, Portoroz and PiranAfter breakfast you will visit Piran, which is an old Mediterranean harbor town in the Slovene Istria region. The entire town is a living museum with preserved medieval structures, fascinating architecture, and a rich cultural heritage. The narrow streets and closely built old houses add to the town’s special charm. Situated at its very center, the famous Tartini Square is a tribute to the prominent Piran-born violin player and composer Giuseppe Tartini (1692–1777). The square also boasts a monument in the musician’s honor. Another treat for the eyes is the “Venetian” – a luxurious building from the middle of the 15th century that is considered one of the most beautiful examples of Venetian gothic architecture in Slovenia. Strolling along the narrow streets typical of Istrian coastal towns, you will climb the hill overlooking Piran to reach the Church of St. George. From the church grounds you can enjoy a magnificent view of the sea and surrounding coastal towns. In ancient days, the town was surrounded by a mighty wall. Unfortunately only a small fraction of it is still preserved today and you will visit one of the most famous remnants of this ancient structure: the Marčana gate. There is also the charming and romantic seaside Church of St. Clement, the patron saint of sailors, which was mentioned as early as the 13th century. You can then enjoy a relaxing time on the beach or at one of the restaurants along the seaside promenade, or opt for a visit to the local Maritime Museum or the Diving Museum. Another unforgettable experience is a visit to the Sečovlje Salina Nature Park. The Sečovlje salt pans are the only ones of their kind in this part of the Adriatic Sea, where, as part of the Museum of Salt-Making, salt is still harvested in the traditional way originating from the 14th century. In addition to playing an important role in the preservation of cultural heritage, the Sečovlje Salina Nature Park is also home to more than 270 bird species, numerous marine crabs, and even the second smallest mammal in the world: the 2-gram pygmy white-toothed shrew (Suncus etruscus). Day 5 (Wednesday): Julian Alps and adrenaline sportsEarly in the morning, you will start your journey towards the beautiful alpine world of the Slovene Northcoast. On this day, you will set out on an adrenaline-filled rafting trip down the wild rapids of the River Soča (from April to October)*, followed by a stop in the town of Kobarid where you can visit the Church of St. Anthony with its Italian ossuary, a memorial for the Italian soldiers who died in World War I, and the Kobarid Museum with information on events that happened on the Isonzo Front during WWI claiming 300,000 human lives. Kobarid is also known for its Napoleon Bridge over which Napoleon’s armies marched on their way to battle. Unfortunately, the bridge was destroyed during World War I but a new one was later built in its place. The picturesque Kozjak waterfall is also nearby. You will then stop in Drežnica, an idyllic village at the heart of the Julian Alps that is very popular with paragliders. With prior notice, tandem paragliding flights can be organized. Enjoy the local food for dinner and sleep in this fairytale village under Julian Alps. Day 6 (Thursday): Kobarid through Kranjska Gora to BledAt the side of the mountain pass, an entirely different world awaits you – the world of the emerald green Soča River, considered by many the most beautiful river in Europe, whose path you will follow for the rest of your journey. First, you will visit the river’s source high up in the mountains, thought to be one of the most stunning areas in the country. Then you will cross Vršič, Slovenia’s highest mountain pass. The road leading across the pass was built primarily by Russian prisoners during World War I, of which you are reminded by the Russian Chapel built along the side. Once you reach Vršič's full 1611 meters of altitude, an unforgettable view of the Julian Alps will open up before you. After Vršič mountain the journey continues up the beautiful alpine world of the Slovene Northcoast. After a short stop at Jasna Lake near Kranjska Gora you will stop in the idyllic town of Kranjska Gora for lunch. Bled, which is by far the most famous and popular tourist site in Slovenia, is the next stop. Its natural beauty has captivated both tourists and local residents alike. It is famous for its beautiful lake that boasts the only real island in all of Slovenia. To reach the island, you will board a traditional wooden oared boat called a pletna and then proceed up the picturesque stone staircase to the Church of Mary’s Assumption. Stop to make a wish at the wishing bell constructed in 1534 and enjoy a sip of the refreshing water from the well built in honor of a princess who died a tragic and premature end. To conclude the day, you will enjoy a delicious slice of cream cake, one of Bled’s culinary specialties. At your request, afternoons can be spent at one of the lake’s public beaches where water temperatures rise to a pleasant 25°C in summer months.* Adrenaline lovers can opt for a summer ride on the sledge slide and in winter time we can do some skiing on Krvavec ski resort. Day 7 (Friday): Bohinj and LjubljanaThe day starts with a hike along Blejski Vintgar, a trail carved into the vertical walls of the surrounding hills and lined with waterfalls, pools, and rapids created by the Radovna River. The day's journey continues with a pristine conoe trip. Those seeking further thrills can opt to try the natural “water slides” carved into the stone by the river and its streams. Continuing your journey, you will head to Bohinj to taste some of the traditional dishes from this region, including cheese dumplings, sauerkraut with corn mush, Bohinj cheese, and others. You will then visit the Savica waterfall, which originates from a 120-meter-long cave and cascades into a 78-meter-high double waterfall. To conclude the day, you can discover the beauty of the extraordinary glacier Lake Bohinj from a boat, canoe, or kayak*.
